Australia’s LNG industry on show

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was among the industry leaders who travelled to Perth for the 18^th International Conference & Exhibition on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG 18) this week.

LNG 18 is being held at Perth Convention & Exhibition Centre from 11-15 April and welcomes over 5,000 participants from around the world including over 250 exhibitors from over 60 countries.

Exhibition and Event Association of Australasia (EEAA) Chief Executive, Joyce DiMascio, said the event highlighted the Power of Exhibitions to ignite a key pillar of the Australian economy.

“This event has been a long-time in the making and over the four days it will transform Perth we are delighted the Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull saw it fit to attend this important business event and spread the message that Australia was open for business in this sector.” Ms DiMascio said.

This is the second time the major international conference has been held in Perth.

“After the success of hosting LNG 12 in Perth in 1998, PCB canvassed the opportunity to bid for LNG 18 with the Australian Gas Industry Trust nearly seven years ago,” said Paul Beeson, Chief Executive Officer of the Perth Convention Bureau (PCB)

Beeson said, “LNG18 is an excellent example of our relatively small, but high value industry working together to secure a large event. With an economic impact calculated at more than $50 million, LNG18 will deliver multiple dividends to the State of Western Australia and industry.”

Currently the world’s third largest LNG exporter, Australia is developing the fastest growing LNG projects worldwide and is on track to becoming the largest LNG exporter in the world by 2020.

LNG 18 will showcase Australia’s “world-firsts” and innovative projects such as Floating LNG, subsea technology and coal bed methane to LNG.

The importance of gas and the resources industry to the Australian economy has also been highlighted by the nation’s Federal Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia, The Hon. Josh Frydenberg, in a speech to the National Press Club in Canberra.

“The global demand for gas will increase by 50 per cent between now and 2040 and as we are soon to be the largest exporter of LNG in the world, this makes us the principal beneficiary.” said Mr Frydenberg.

The 4-day program at LNG 18 includes plenary sessions, workshops, exhibition, poster sessions, technical tours to world-leading LNG facilities, city tours, opening and closing ceremonies and receptions.
