The Big Cheese – Steve Chezzi, Technical Manager, The Star Event Centre

With more than 16 years’ experience under his belt, Steve Chezzi is Technical Manager of Sydney’s leading specialty event venue, The Star Event Centre where he is responsible for leading their award-winning team of over 50 audio-visual (AV) event professionals.

The great thing about my job is… working with an amazing and diverse range of people – clients and fellow workers, and of course having access to great coffee!

The challenge for industry is… what to deliver next?  Everyone is after something new – be that technology or mode of delivery – and that’s a big and interesting challenge for us.

My greatest achievement is… successfully navigating 20 years of events, broadcasts and productions within the industry.

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be… the exciting and innovative uses of digital screen and HD/ 4k projection.

I try to relax by… spending time with my family and competing in Dragon Boat racing.

I don’t understand why… with so many ways of communicating today, how do we still seem to get it wrong?

My favourite venue is… Lomani Island in Fiji.

I’ve always wanted to travel to… Alaska to see the glaciers and Northern Lights.

I am scared to death of… a global shortage of coffee.

I can’t live without… my family and ice-cream.

I really wish I had… an extra day a week that no one else knew about!

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be… Martin Luther King, Bono, Amal Clooney, and Neil Armstrong.

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be… Take your time, be a sponge for information, and work with the moments – the good ones and the challenging ones – there will be plenty of them!
