The Big Cheese with The Sanchaya’s Magnus Olovson

This week’s Big Cheese chats to Magnus Olovson, Estate Manager at The Sanchaya.

The great thing about my job is…

Being able to do what I love.

The challenge for the industry is…

Definitely not to lose the human touch.

We are submerged by technologies and virtual realities to such an extent that we forget the simple things in life, such as stopping for a chat with the Steward or the Gardener, sharing that latest book or wine with the Guest, spending ten minutes to play with children or walking the property without a smartphone…

My greatest achievement is…

To have decided not to work anymore. What I do 6 days a week is my choice of living, combined with a rich love and family life!

The biggest thing in MICE this year will be…

To get away from pre-set programs, to offer a real escape through sharing moments, stories and plenty of quality time. Maybe through that sommelier hosted wine & cheese pairing?!

I try to relax by…

Diving! And trying new wines of course.

I don’t understand why…

So many are miserable in their jobs…

My favourite venue is…

Östermalmshallen in Stockholm for its amazings foods and ambiance.

I’ve always wanted to travel to…

New Zealand, its snowy peaks, sceneries, vineyards… and diving the Great Barrier Reef before it’s too late!

I am scared to death of…

Heights…

I can’t live without…

My closest friend, who happens to be my marvelous wife!

I really wish I had…

More time for bookstores – and a really well stocked wine cellar!

If I could invite four people to a dinner party, they’d be…

Comedian Jon Stewart, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, Hotelier Gordon Campbell Gray and my Start-Up Manager and sister Susanne

For anyone starting out in the industry one piece of advice I’d give would be ….

Do not take it too seriously and be ready to work like an idiot for at least 10 years while keeping your ears and senses wide open.
