Virgin cans Perth-Abu Dhabi route

Virgin cans Perth-Abu Dhabi route

Virgin Australia has announced its giving its Perth and Abu Dhabi routes the chop, which haven’t even officially taken off yet.

The airline planned to introduce three weekly services between the two destinations, using the Airbus A330-200 aircraft, releasing the news in September last year.

But following “subsequent changes in market conditions”, the carrier says the route is no longer viable for them.

Virgin Australia customers can continue to book travel on alliance partner Etihad Airways’ daily service between Perth and Abu Dhabi and all connecting services as per usual.

In the meantime, a statement from Virgin Australia said they will continue to explore opportunities to bring choice and competition to travel from Perth.

Customers who are booked to travel on the route will be re-accommodated on Etihad Airways services between Perth and Abu Dhabi, with affected customers to be provided with new flight details by Virgin Australia.

Virgin Australia recently announced its highly anticipated Hong Kong routes as well as details of its alliance with HNA Aviation, Hong Kong Airlines and HK Express.
