Bid Manager


At Business Events Sydney (BESydney) our mandate is simple: to tell the world that Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) is one of the greatest places to meet.




Our role is to bid for and secure international business events to Sydney and NSW. Our mission is to position Sydney and NSW as world-renowned, dynamic and sustainable meeting destinations by being a global thought leader in the business event sector; challenging the status quo; and by connecting, engaging with and respecting its stakeholders to deliver economic and social benefits.




Due to a recent re-alignment of our business to multi-disciplinary Industry sector focused teams, BESydney has a new full time position vacancy.




The Bid Manager is part of a high-performing industry-focused multidisciplinary team,  responsible for research, industry engagement and bidding activities to secure international business events for Sydney and NSW. Key to this function is developing strategic, creative and innovative bid proposals, and profiling the respective industries, the destination, BESydney, and our network of partners.




The Bid Manager is responsible for:


  • Progressing existing opportunities from the Industry Engagement Team and Industry Research Managers, and developing a comprehensive bid strategy and business case to position Sydney for success against domestic and international competitors


  • Building strong relationships and relevant strategic alliances

  • Positioning BESydney as a strategic advisor.


    This role works closely with the sector Research Manager and the Industry Engagement Manager to establish an in-depth understanding of a client’s organisation, their objectives in bidding and the process involved. The successful candidate must have the ability to, and be able to demonstrate, they can:



  • Develop and maintain professional partnerships and internal relationships

  • Communicate effectively through writing

  • Think and plan strategically

  • Successfully negotiate and persuade

  • Be commercially astute

  • Be creative and innovative

  • Work independently

  • Demonstrate strong project management skills.

    The successful candidate must also possess:



  • A degree from an academic institution, or substantial industry experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in a bid management, project management, account management and/or marketing role (marketing background an advantage)

  • A demonstrated strategic ability and excellent writing skills

  • An understanding of, and interest in, broad national and international cultural, economic, business and social trends

  • An understanding of, or ability to rapidly acquire the understanding of, the association/not-for-profit sector.
